Fourth and fifth grade small groups had their own MTeams Walls and Notebooks throughout distance learning where they had the opportunity to collaborate with each other on ELA and social studies tasks or begin discussions related to assignments. Some students created shadowboxes for their favorite book read during quarantine, and fourth graders selected books that they'll be diving into as part of summer reading. Students took virtual fieldtrips, as technology allowed, to places we wouldn't normally get to visit during a regular Wildwood fieldtrip. Fourth and fifth graders even continued flexing their writing muscles during distance learning, creating multi-paragraph opinion and comparative essays. All in all, our upper elementary students really stepped up to the challenge of learning virtually from home!
1st Grade Dual Spanish Immersion has been working hard using many of the distance learning strategies and available platforms. My students have recieved a daily reading lesson and one virtual math lesson every week.
Mrs. Schexnayder's Gifted Resource Students have been working hard. They have learned all about dinosaurs, created their own model of a Trex using straws and play dough, dug up fossils, and written their own class book. All of this would not have been possible without a grant from Donors Choose which allowed Mrs. Schexnayder to ship resources for hands on activities directly to her students! BRAMLETTE RECEIVES STEM GRANT FROM TOSHIBA AMERICA FOUNDATION FOR $1,000 Wildwood is pleased to announce Mrs. Bramlette has received a $1,000 STEM grant from the Toshiba America Foundation (TAF). These funds will support the a classroom maker space! Students will be able to bring STEM to life using this maker space to transform learning and get kids working with hands on materials. Toshiba America Foundation’s grants fund projects designed by individual classroom teachers. This “direct-to-teacher” approach brings immediate results. Teachers are able to change the way they teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects because the grant supports equipment for hands-on experiments and inquiry-based approaches to the curriculum. At TAF, we believe that STEM is a lot more fun than just reading a textbook. TAF grants provide teachers with the tools they need to be more effective educators. The grants make the classroom a more exciting place for both teachers and students. About Toshiba America Foundation Founded in 1990 with support from Toshiba Corporation and the Toshiba America Group Companies, Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) is a non-profit grant making organization dedicated to helping classroom teachers make STEM learning fun and successful for K to 12 students in U.S. schools.
